Jaylene Delorme-Buggins
Youth Representative to the Board of Directors for the Native Women's Association of the NWT
About Ms. Delorme-Buggins
Jaylene Delorme is another prime example of northern female leadership in action. This 26 year Chipewyan and Cree woman from Treaty 11 territory is the youth representative with the Native Women’s Association of the NWT and part of the We Matter Campaign Hope Council, an Indigenous youth-led and nationally registered non-profit organization committed to Indigenous youth support, hope and life promotion.
Jaylene was also involved with a youth empowerment organization called Live Different. After struggling with her own addiction and mental health issues she dedicated her life to helping other at risk youth. Teams involved in the program visited schools throughout Canada and gave motivational presentations while sharing personal stories of overcoming hardships and adversity.
While visiting First Nations communities Jaylene utilized workshops and sharing circle sessions to tell her story and to talk with Indigenous youth about important topics such as suicide and mental health.
